Robert N. Klein is the Western Nebraska Crops Specialist at the University of Nebraska West Central Research and Extension Center at North Platte, Nebraska. His work includes both dryland and irrigated crop production of wheat, corn, soybeans, grain sorghum, dry beans and sunflowers using herbicides and limited tillage to conserve soil water, soil, energy and labor. Precision application of herbicides is of major importance to this program to improve pesticide efficacy and manage spray drift. He conducted the Crop Variety Testing Program in the West Central District. Under his leadership, the program was mechanized using state of the art technology. He served a three year term on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Agronomy. Klein's awards include the USDA Distinguished Service Award and being elected to the Nebraska Agricultural Hall of Fame.
