On-farm replicated strip trials conducted by farmers with the help of agronomists and scientists are becoming common across country. Various precision agriculture technologies are used for planning, executing and collecting data from on-farm studies that are focused on evaluating different inputs and management practices. This presentation will describe the role of these technologies for collecting quality data. A set of practical hints for executing specific experimental designs and summarizing data should be of interest for many practical agronomists and crop advisers. Also, the presenters will show examples of decision aid tools based on summaries of individual and a group of on-farm replicated strip trials to make economic decisions whether to use fungicides or change seeding rates in crop production.

Peter earned his Ph.D. in Soil Science and Soil Fertility from Agronomy Department, Iowa State University. At the Iowa Soybean Association, he provides leadership for developing and executing best practices for data collection and data analyses from different on-farm agronomic and environmental studies, as well as communicating study results to farmers, industry professionals, and the scientific community. He serves as Technical Editor-Precision Agriculture for the Agronomy Journal of American Society of Agronomy.

Nate Dorsey is an agronomist at RDO Equipment Co., the largest independent John Deere dealership in the world. He supervises a team of precision agriculture specialists in North Dakota and Minnesota as well as heads up agronomy-related initiatives throughout the company. Prior to working for RDO Equipment Co., he worked for Monsanto in their corn breeding program on the island of Maui. He has a master’s degree in agronomy from Kansas State University and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Brigham Young University.
